In January 2011 we attended the "Ngelinggihan" ceremony which is the putting of the holy symbols in the "sangar tawang", the temporary shrine in the very old temple of Pura Gunung Raung in Taro. It is one of the ceremonies culminating in the big one in March. We found it very special to be there on that moment. Sharing this sacred moment with the Balinese. Because this is the real Bali. The essence. What can we say more ...

- the preparations -

The big renovation finished it is now the time for a the big celebration in March 2011. In the months before already many prelimanary ceremonies are taking place. And many preparations have to be done. It is a joy and pleasure to see the whole community being busy in such an harmony and laughter. Everyone knows what to do. Knows his or her place. And also very very friendly to us. We felt one with them. This is the real Bali. One of the highlights for us on our trip.

The Old Statues of

Pura Gunung Raungngg

In January we visited the famous old temple to see our friend Mangku Kubayan again to find out about the ceremonies to come. The renovation just finished there will be a big celebration on 23rd of March. Many people already busy with the preparations. Everyone has his or her task. The whole community together. What a joy and harmony!!! Really great to be there and to taste already something of the ceremonies. Really eyecatchers were the old statues all put together in the middle. Next to the temporary shrine the " sangar tawang". There also a new statue was being built. Probably of the holy Sri Markandya, who ended up his spiritual journey coming from Jawa from the Gungung Raung with hundreds of followers, here in Taro and erected this temple.

Rejang Dance (young girls) in Pura

Gunung Raung Taro

See on youtube:

Rejang, an ancient temple dance, in the famous Pura Gunuing Raung as part of one of the prelimenary ceremonies before the big one in March 2011. Always nice to see these very young girls doing their best they can. Dressed up like ladies entertaining the visiting god and spirit with their unending motion. It goes on and on. For a cameraman much of a joy to follow.

Baris Gede Dance in the famous Pura Gunuing Raung as part of one of the prelimenary ceremonies before the big one in March 2011. Remarkable: at the end of the performance it was if there was approval by the gods as raindrops were coming from heaven.
